🏛️ Code Enforcement Officer

Pay Rate: $12.00 per hour

Position Summary

The Code Enforcement Officer is responsible for enforcing local codes and ordinances to protect public health, safety, and general welfare within the community. This role involves property inspections, complaint investigations, documentation, and coordination with property owners, legal authorities, and municipal staff to ensure compliance with applicable codes and regulations.

Minimum Qualifications (Required)

Applicants must meet all of the following requirements:

  • Certification or license in one (1) of the four construction trades:

    • HVAC

    • Plumbing

    • Electrical

    • Mechanical

  • College degree (Associate, Bachelor’s, or Master’s)

  • Must be a Notary Public and maintain active status throughout employment

  • Must possess a valid Emergency Vehicle Training Certificate

  • Must have an active MPOETC number

  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in:

    • Building code enforcement or

    • Construction-related inspection work or

    • Investigative or compliance-related experience

  • Working knowledge of Uniform Construction Code (UCC) and BOCA codes

Preferred Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of building, zoning, property maintenance, and safety codes

  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with residents, property owners, and officials

  • Strong observation, documentation, and record-keeping skills

  • Ability to work independently and handle sensitive situations professionally

Key Responsibilities

  • Inspect residential and commercial properties for compliance with local codes and ordinances

  • Investigate complaints related to code violations

  • Issue warnings, notices of violation, or enforcement actions when necessary

  • Maintain accurate inspection reports, case files, and records

  • Attend and participate in legal or administrative hearings as required

  • Work cooperatively with property owners to achieve voluntary compliance

  • Coordinate with municipal departments, law enforcement, and legal staff as needed

Work Schedule & Compensation

  • Hourly Rate: $12.00 per hour

  • Schedule and hours to be determined based on Borough needs
