June Movie Night

On Saturday, June 18th, the Recreation Committee hosted a screening of the fan favorite Encanto at Parkside Elementary School. Over 200 residents attended the event, perhaps lured by the unusually cool summer weather. Sources report that screams of “We Don’t Talk about Bruno” could be heard throughout the borough.

As darkness approached, the anticipation built. While the crowd anxiously waited, resident Chip Haynes entertained them with an array of songs such as “Wheels on the Bus” and “Take Me Home, Country Road.” Then Recreation Committee Chair Michael Costigan came to the microphone to thank everyone for coming. He encouraged attendees to stop by the snack stand, where they could purchase popcorn, snow cones, chips, candy, juice, and water, which were generously donated by residents and committee members. Then the movie began, captivating parents and children alike. Recreation Committee member Dena Sweeney painted a beautiful scene from the film that was raffled off to one lucky attendee at the conclusion of the film. Parkside Police officer Doug Stafflebach and the Parkside Fire Company assisted with lighting and traffic control to ensure all residents got home safe.

Dedicated volunteers Judy and Matt Saunders, Dena and Mike Sweeney, Minnie Didomenico, Sarah Haynes, Kyle Palmer, Brighid Sweigart, Nate Sweigart, Mayor Roman, Councilman Sweigart, and President Guy assisted with various tasks, before, during and after the event.

The committee would like to thank everyone for attending, and we look forward to seeing you at future events. All events can be found on the borough website and facebook page. As always, anyone interested in helping plan events, please reach out to Michael Costigan mcostigan@parksideborough.com.
